Splinting & Casting

In addition to bone fractures, a number of musculoskeletal conditions are managed through the application of a cast or splint to immobilise an area, diminish pain and promote healing.

Splints provide less support than casts, but are easier to use and can be adjusted, making them ideal where swelling is present.

Casts provide more support and protection for a limb that is injured or broken. They are normally made from plaster or fiberglass and can be easily moulded to the shape of an injured arm or leg. The plaster or fiberglass forms a hard layer that protects the injured limb and keeps it immobilised.

The staff at Philip Wood Physiotherapy are able to apply and remove a variety of splints and casts (including waterproof casts) and give you the best advice on how to look after both the splint/cast and the affected area.

We can also prescribe and supply thermoplastic splints, braces and walking aides.

Frequently Asked Questions

Physiotherapy uses a variety of techniques to help your muscles and joints work to their full potential. It can help repair damage by speeding up the healing process and by reducing pain and stiffness. Physiotherapy also plays a vital role in rehabilitation; for example, helping people who have had strokes relearn basic movements.

All physiotherapists in Australia are required to be registered by law. Registration as a physiotherapist is only possible after completion of a university degree in physiotherapy or health sciences.

An appointment will usually be available within 24-48 hours; though where possible, we try and find an appointment on the same day.

A referral is not necessary, though if you have one, bring it with you so that the physiotherapist can communicate with the referring practitioner if required.

Payment is made after each consultation, either by credit card, eftpos, or cash. Please contact us for an up to date list of charges.

We have a TYRO system on site which directly communicates with your Health Fund. After your Health Fund rebates the fee, you will only be required to pay the gap.

The amount of the rebate will vary from fund to fund and will depend on your level of cover. It may be best to consult with your Fund directly to get an estimation of the rebate.

Philip Wood Physiotherapy is a BUPA preferred partner, a member of the HCF More for Muscles Program and a NIB preferred provider.
